Assistant Deputy Minister, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC)
Fred Gorrell is Assistant Deputy Minister of the Market and Industry Services Branch (MISB) at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC), responsible for increasing the competitiveness of the agriculture and food processing industries through the development and implementation of domestic policies and supporting increased export opportunities through improved market access conditions and trade development activities conducted in foreign markets.
A former executive director of international policy at the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, he was responsible for advancing and securing market access and trade policy interests in the areas of sanitary and other technical regulations. He has spent considerable time in China since its accession to the WTO in 2001.
Fred has over 20 years of experience in dealing with agriculture and agri-food trade issues both domestically and internationally, having worked for Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development.
